Position  Summary:

The Textile Production Manager is responsible for organizing, planning, and directing the company's sewing shop. The Manager's function is to manage sewing production including administration of employees, oversight of product quality, and equipment maintenance. The manager optimizes productivity, while reducing manufacturing costs through effective managing. The manager keeps accurate, up-to-date records on production schedules, purchasing needs, and employee schedules.

The ideal candidate will be able to multitask effectively, while working under high pressure deadlines. This person must have a high degree of attention to detail and ability to handle a wide variety of tasks. The manager will also need to have strong verbal and written skills to communicate effectively at all times. The manager will be communicating with personnel at all levels, as such, they will need to be able to interact professionally while still remaining resourceful and efficient. The manager must have experience as a hiring manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee daily production and maintain a production schedule that ensures on-time delivery of all orders.
  • Assign work schedule for all department staff to ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained within all areas of the department.
  • Recruit, hire and mentor new employees.
  • Manage both small and large production runs; create labor estimates and determine required equipment and other resources.
  • Examines parts, sub assemblies, and final product for defects, such as irregular stitches and misaligned parts.
  • Maintains safety, housekeeping, and preventive maintenance in assigned areas and reports safety concerns.
  • Make visual inspection of machinery for quality and production. Keep machinery in condition for best performance and highest efficiency via preventive maintenance programs.
  • Ensures products are produced on-time, to spec, and meet all requirements.
  • Ensure the facility and operators achieve production goals and quality requirements at the lowest cost while analyzing data for improving cost savings and efficiency.
  • Train workers in operation of sewing machines and other related equipment and instructs in methods to detect and correct defective work.
  • Communicate instructions, information, and encouragement effectively to associates.
  • Performs regular departmental and individual skill need assessments to determine training necessary for development.
  • Develop and interpret production and efficiency reports and work with operators to improve performance
  • Complete and process weekly payroll and vacation processing.
  • Maintain manufacturing and quality documentation along with drawing files to ensure revision control.
  • Create and update records ensuring accuracy and validity of information.
  • Manage multi-location production lists and deadlines and consults production paperwork for specific work instructions related to the lot.
  • Maintain internal inventories and communicate material needs to the Purchasing Department.
  • Identify logistics challenges for raw goods and help provide solutions.
  • Establish and maintain a strong, positive working relationship with other departments and management as necessary to coordinate operations and activities within or between departments.
  • Assists in department sewing production as necessary.
  • Prepare presentation and meeting materials, reports and documents as needed.
  • Prepare and submit all expense reports on a timely basis.
  • Complete work on time and in a competitive manner.

Experience and Qualifications Requirements:

  • Familiar with the operation of various machines (e.g. heavy duty, single and double needle sewing machines, walking foot, bar tacking machine, tacker, lockstitch, overlock, ZigZag, automatic single needle.
  • Ability to design/create cut patterns for our sewn products and determine most efficient yields based on fabric roll width, cut table length, etc.
  • Sound judgement and flexibility to prioritize and handle multiple assignments at any given time.
  • Flexibility to handle both routine and unexpected assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Professional judgement and discretion which comes from years of experience in the field.
  • Working knowledge of industrial sewing techniques and equipment.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment and consistently meet deadlines.

Education and/or Experience:

A minimum of 2 years production experience in an industrial sewing environment

2 years of management experience

Bachelor's Degree or professional accreditation preferred

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must have a variety of knowledge:

  • Microsoft office products
  • Extensive knowledge of how to manage and make spreadsheets
  • Gsuite console
  • Excellent writing skills
