Job Description:  Welding Manager

Position Reports to: Production Manager

Job Purpose Summary:  The Welding Manager directs and manages all aspects of welding operations in regards to production planning, maintenance, training, and quality control. The manager's function is to oversee the welding shop and its employees. The Welding Manager directs the fabrication of the trampoline steel, manages effective processes and keeps accurate production records. The Welding Manager also ensures employee training and equipment maintenance is up to date. The manager develops best practices for new products and drives improvements in the shop.

The ideal candidate will be able to multitask effectively while under pressure and still have a high degree of attention to detail and discretion to handle a wide variety of tasks. The manager will also need to have strong verbal and written skills to communicate effectively at all times. The manager will be communicating with personnel at all levels, as such, they will need to be able to interact professionally while still remaining resourceful and efficient. This person must have experience as a hiring manager.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Schedule materials, manpower, and machines to ensure workflow meets the production timeline and has on-time delivery of all orders.
  2. Participate in planning meetings to evaluate future specs for process, staffing and equipment requirements.
  3. Confer with management personnel to establish production and quality control standards, develop budget and cost controls, product specifications, and delivery dates of products ordered.
  4. Establish production priorities, and revise schedule according to projects, work order specifications, availability and capability of workers, parts, material, machines, and equipment.
  5. Organize resources to ensure the effective production of goods while keeping cost effective.
  6. Ensure products are produced on-time, to spec, and meet all requirements.
  7. Inspect packaging/containers for shipping to minimize any chance of damage.
  8. Improve manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow and equipment layout using space requirements.
  9. Develop and implement procedures and work instructions for all production related processes.
  10. Ensure adequate training of staff and enforce employee compliance to organization's policies and practices.
  11. Perform regular departmental and individual skill assessments to determine training necessary for development.
  12. Complete and process weekly payroll and paid time off.
  13. Ensure manufacturing equipment and employees within the shop operate in accordance to health, safety and environmental regulations and procedures.
  14. Keep machinery in condition for best performance and highest efficiency via preventive maintenance programs and by maintaining a maintenance log
  15. Review and analyze production, quality control, maintenance, and operational reports to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications and operating or production problems.
  16. Develop and interpret production and efficiency reports and work with operators to improve performance.
  17. Keep detailed log of any reported installation issues with products for evaluation.
  18. Identify constructability and logistics challenges and helps provide solutions.
  19. Initiate and develop improvement projects including new processes, manufacturing equipment, facility enhancements and new product launches.
  20. Collect, analyze and summarize manufacturing data which will be compiled into reports and presented to management.
  21. Develop and track records of daily production statistics.
  22. Create and update records ensuring accuracy and validity of information.
  23. Prepare and submit all expense reports on a timely basis.
  24. Research and support the implementation of special projects.
  25. Complete work on time and in a competitive manner.
  26. Recruit, hire and mentor new employees
  27. Perform production work as needed or assigned.
  28. Assist with key projects.
  29. Other duties as assigned.

Key Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or professional accreditation preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in steel fabrication and welding.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience in a supervisory role.
  • Excellent communication and writing skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of how to manage and make spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft office products, G Suite and Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Knowledge of typical estimating programs preferred.
  • Extensive knowledge of machining, tool design, welding, and basic metallurgy along with CNC programming.
  • Ability to think logically, critically, and work well under pressure.  
  • Ability to work and problem solve resourcefully and independently.
